Set up MailSprout in Apple Mail (Mac)

Apple Mail on Mac uses the same standards as Mail on iPhone, with a slightly different add-account flow. About three minutes start to finish.

Last verified: May 27, 2026

Before you start

  • A Mac running macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
  • A MailSprout email account already created (open the dashboard if you haven't).
  • The credentials panel open with the password and server settings visible.
1

Open Mail Settings

Open Mail. In the menu bar, click Mail then Settings (in older macOS versions this is Preferences). Click the Accounts tab.

2

Add an Other Mail Account

Click the + button at the bottom-left of the account list. A panel opens with logos for iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Google, and so on. Scroll past those and pick Other Mail Account, then click Continue.

3

Enter your name, email, and password

Fill in:

  • Name: how you want the From line to read
  • Email Address: your full MailSprout address
  • Password: the one from the credentials panel

Click Sign In.

You may see Unable to verify account name or password. That's expected, because Mail tried the auto-discover first. The screen will expand to show manual server fields. Keep going.
4

Enter the server settings

The expanded form asks for incoming and outgoing details. Fill in:

  • Account Type: IMAP
  • Incoming Mail Server: fusion.mxrouting.net
  • Outgoing Mail Server: fusion.mxrouting.net
  • User Name: your full email address
  • Password: pre-filled from the previous step

Click Sign In.

5

Pick which apps to use

Mail asks which apps you want to use with this account. Mail is checked already; leave the others off unless you also want Notes synced through this account. Click Done.

6

Send a test message

The new account appears in Mail's sidebar. Click New Message and send yourself a test from a different address to confirm both sending and receiving work.

Troubleshooting

"Unable to verify account name or password" loops back even after I fill in the server.
Re-open the Accounts panel, click the account, then the Server Settings tab. Confirm: incoming server fusion.mxrouting.net, port 993, Use TLS/SSL on. Outgoing server fusion.mxrouting.net, port 465, Use TLS/SSL on, Authentication set to Password.
Apple Mail uses port 587 for outgoing and won't send.
Open MailSettings Accounts, click the account, click the Server Settings tab. In the Outgoing section, uncheck Automatically manage connection settings, then set port to 465 and Use TLS/SSL on. Save.
Mail downloaded my inbox but messages don't show up on iPhone.
The account on Mac is set to IMAP (good), so mail stays on the server. Make sure the iPhone copy was also set up as IMAP, not POP. If you installed the iPhone profile from the QR, it's already IMAP.
